Author visits- Online or in-person
Whether it's celebrating Book Week, running a children's writing workshop, or supporting whole school literacy programs as writer in residence, sharing my love of books and of writing is an important part of being an author.
I am a flexible and engaging presenter, comfortable with audiences of all ages (yes, that includes pre-schoolers to teens and beyond). Although nothing beats an in-person author visit, online visits are also possible and can be arranged and delivered to suit your group and their learning needs.

School visits:
School visits are always special and a real highlight in my year. I can present at both public and independent schools, varying content to meet the needs of your school and audience. If you'd like to book a school visit please send me an quick email with a couple of basic details about the type of visit you're interested in (eg. Online/In-person, Book Week, assembly style, class visits, writing workshops, residency options etc.) and let me know when you'd like the visit to occur. I'll then check my diary and get back to you. |

Visit FAQs:
What types of visits can you do?
I can do in-person and online author visits. The range of visits I offer schools include:
What about student book orders?
I'm very happy to work with your school to encourage students to purchase books. For in-person events, students can pre-order books from my special Visits Store page. If you are arranging a Book Fair to coincide with Book Week or other events, my books may be available from your supplier. Simply request the titles you need when organising your event.
How much does a visit cost?
My rates are based on the Australian Society of Authors recommendations for author visits and vary based on the length and style of visit required.
Book Launch Tour visits are offered at a reduced rate.
How far can you travel?
Although visits in the Sydney area are probably easiest for me, I'm certainly happy to travel further afield, including interstate. Schools will need to contribute to travel expenses. These expenses can be reduced if the visit includes several schools on the one trip, so it may be worth recommending me to neighbouring schools and seeing if we can get the cost down.

Testimonials:
Primary school visits:
'Penny Visited our school for an author's workshop with our 2 OC (Gifted) Classes. During the visit she presented in 3 different ways. Firstly, a general talk to 60 children about her own writing, what had inspired and interested her and the process she had gone through to be published. Second were class writing workshops where Penny passed on tips and skills. Thirdly was an intensive writing class for a smaller and more talented group. The children really enjoyed meeting a 'real live author'. The children's writing benefited from the workshop, especially the smaller intensive group.'
Greg Edwards, OC Teacher, Colyton Public School. Other visits:
'Penny was prompt and professional in her communication with us. She came to the workshop well prepared and with ample time to setup. The workshop was effectively structured to enable participants to understand the relevant concepts and techniques. Penny ensured that the workshop was hands-on, with plenty of time for participants to practice writing. She engaged well with the participants and quickly created a space where they were comfortable to share ideas.
“I liked working with the author when we learnt about the seven different plots.” Workshop participant “I thought Penny did a great job engaging the kids and keeping them busy and having fun.” Participant’s parent' The Children’s Team, Penrith City Library |
High school visits:
'It was a delight to have Penny Jaye visit with with our students. She provided the students with much more than the skills needed to plan, produce and publish a piece of creative writing. Penny shared the power of story and the validity of writing about what you know and the things about which you are passionate.
The students were encouraged to see their writing as an opportunity to change the lives of others and not just a medium for self-expression or self-fulfilment.' Philip Cooney, Librarian, Wycliffe Christian School. 'Year 11 recently had the opportunity to hear from author Penny Jaye about her experiences researching and writing her new book Out of the Cages. This book tackles the important subject of child trafficking. Penny also spoke of the writing process and her journey to becoming published. She read an extract from her novel, complete with convincing accents that had the students mesmerised.'
Michelle West, Cedars Christian College. “This was an excellent author talk. We were challenged and encouraged to hear about the way she was using her writing skills to bring light to this important issue.” Student comment, Cedars Christian College. 'Penny has a wonderful rapport with our Year 7 students. Her passion for story telling is engaging, in a sincere and ‘real-world’ way. We have had Penny visit for some years and the students always enjoy her visits.'
Jason Matheson, Library Coordinator, St Philip's Christian College. 'Penny's talk to our students on her author journey and the processes involved with writing picture books was very informative and engaging. Penny tailored her presentation to complement the activities being run at the school to support Children's book week. The students valued hearing about the experiences of a published author. The students also found the writing activities Penny incorporated into her presentation to be stimulating and useful for their creative writing assessments for English.'
